Football is also known as soccer is a sport which is played between two teams, each team have eleven players. This game is played on a rectangular field with two goal posts at each end of the ground. The target of this game is to score a goal by getting the ball into opponent team’s goal post. Only the goalkeeper can touch the ball with a hand inside penalty area whereas other players can only use their feet to strike the ball.
Regulating body
The game is regulated by Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). There are six regional confederations in each continent, and there are national associations in each country.
How to play
Football starts with centre kick after toss is done. Team captain winning toss decides whether his team will kick off or choose goal side. One referee is present inside the field who manages the whole game, and two referees are known as linesman who checks throw-in, off-side, corner kicks, etc. Eleven players of each team plays and a reserve bench are kept for substitution. A team can make three changes in a game. Duration of the game is ninety minutes, and if no goal is scored in ninety minutes, then the game is played for another thirty minutes. After that penalty shootout is done if no goal is scored in one twenty minutes. The goal side is changed between half time after forty-five minutes and during the extra time the side is changed after fifteen minutes.
Rules
In football when the ball goes out of field then the ball is said to be out of play. When the ball goes out of play or some rules are violated, one of the following restart methods is used.
- Kick-off: it is done after a team scores goal and during start after the break.
- Throw-in: when the ball crosses sideline then opposite team touching the ball throws it.
- Goal kick: When the ball crosses goal line then goalkeeper makes the goal kick.
- Corner kick: When the ball crosses the goal line, and it is touched by the players of defending team then it is said to be corner kick.
- Indirect free kick: it is awarded to the opponent team which makes non-penal fouls.
- Direct free kick: it is awarded to the opponent team which makes penal fouls.
- Penalty kick: when foul is made inside the penalty box.
- Dropped the ball: when the game resumes after some interference like injury or crowds.
