Soccer or better known as football is a most popular game and played all over the world. It is played with two teams of eleven each. From a survey, it is found that football is being played over 200 nations. The field is of rectangular shape and has two goals at the opposite ends. History of soccer
The earliest form of football was known as known as cuju, where the players have to kick the ball through an opening of a net, using only their feet. It was played in China, in 2Nd and 3Rd century BC. Romans and Greeks also used to play the game, for fun. There were many other pieces of evidence, where people used to kick a ball through the opening of a net but, it involved hands and violence.
England gave birth to modern football. Many reports say that the oldest football club was formed in Edinburg, in 1824. But it stopped working after few years. The first official international match took place between Scotland and England, in 1872. Then many football clubs started growing up in different places. Now there are many governing bodies all over the world. The FIFA headquarters are located in Zurich, in Switzerland.
Common terminologies used in football
- Back pass: a player, kicks a ball, towards his own goal. This is a defensive attitude, and it can give new chances of resuming the game.
- Carrier: the player with whom the ball is known as a ball carrier.
- Dummy run it the player, who runs along the carrier so as to protect him from the opponent.
- Offside: when a player is in nearest position to the opponent’s goal, both from the send-to last opponent and the goal, then the position is known as offside position. A free kick is awarded to the opponent.
- Red card: a player is suspended from the game, because of some serious violation of rules or have two yellow cards in the same game.
- Yellow card: resembles minor violation of rules.
